The communication distance of a button battery can reach 20km. TI released Sub-1GHz wireless communication MCU, Texas Instruments Japan Company, which released a new product of MCU "SimpleLink" with wireless communication function, "SimpleLink Sub-1GHz CC1310", and displayed the evaluation module of the MCU on "Embedded Technology 2015" (booth number: B-17).


This is one of six SimpleLink products released by TI at Embedworld 2015 in Nuremberg, Germany, in February 2015 (see our report). At that time, three products with 2.4 GHz wireless communication function were introduced in detail, but three products such as CC1310 only introduced the outline, including sub-1GHz wireless communication function.


All six products are manufactured using a newly developed 65-nm process to minimize leakage current. The last generation products (CC1200, etc.) were manufactured by 180nm process. In addition, the power supply is replaced by a step-down DC-DC converter by a LDO of the previous generation. Through these two measures, the power consumption of CC1310 is much lower than that of CC1200. The consumption current of CC1310 is only 5.5mA when it receives signals. The consumption current of CC1310 when it transmits signals is reduced to 12.9mA (+10dBm), which is 1/4 and 1/3 of CC1200 respectively.


In addition, CC1310 consumes only 0.6 mu A of current when it is dormant, and can work for 20 years with a button battery. The sensitivity is - 110 dBm at the rate of 50 Kbps and - 124 dBm at the rate of 0.625 kbps. Therefore, a button battery can ensure the communication distance of more than 20 km. The main CPU core uses Cortex-M3, which integrates flash memory up to 128KB.


CC1310 has several products for 315 MHz, 433 MHz, 470 MHz, 500 MHz, 868 MHz, 915 MHz and 920 MHz bands. It has prepared QFN packages of 4 mm *4 mm, 5 mm *5 mm and 7 mm *7 mm. At present, products for 868 MHz, 915 MHz and 920 MHz bands are being supplied in QFN packages of 7mm *7mm. For the unit price of chips purchased in batches of 1000 units, the flash memory capacity of 32 KB "CC1310F32" is $2.80 (reference price), 64 KB "CC1310F64" is $3.20 (reference price), 128KB "CC1310F128" is $3.60 (reference price).


For the evaluation module for CC1310 development, the entry kit version "CC1310EMK" is $99 (reference price), and the official version "CC1310DK" is $299. The exhibition area shows CC1310EMK and the wireless communication module developed by partner enterprises based on CC1310. There are modules developed by SMK and Telepower, among which SMK released related products at the end of October 2015.
